About TLF

Tough Love Fitness is one of Bangalore’s most unique outdoor fitness concepts. In November 2008, I started training individuals and small groups of people in an attempt to give a living, breathing, formal form to something I have been doing passionately all my life.

It has been a year since then, and I’ve been fortunate to touch and change the lives of a few wonderful people. Thank you all for being a part of this experience.

This website is an attempt to reach out, interact and train with many more weekend warriors desperate to find an alternate source of physical conditioning.

Ours is a highly specialised society, dutifully segmented into interlocking units performing individual tasks that add up to making the whole function beautifully. One of the most remarkable feats that this specialisation has wrought is leisure. Life in the big city mostly consists of two activities – the securing of substantial monetary reward, and the pursuit of convenience. The pursuit of convenience is essentially the pursuit of happiness, having the time to do what you and I want to do with our lives.

Convenience in our daily lives has had an impact on our evolution as human beings – on our stereotypes and classification of the world around us. There has noticeably been a change in the perception of physical or anatomical health. Fitness, in a nutshell is increasingly judged by aesthetic appeal and social appropriateness, if there is such a term. This has been supported by advertising and biased corporate education. Gymnasiums, spas and wellness centres struggle to find and focus on the minor differences between their programmes, while greying out massive similarities in approach. Often times the only difference between two centres vying for your fitness budget is the amount of money each one was put into the interiors or the juice bar in the corner.

How are we different?
Tough Love Fitness is different. There are no dumbbell racks, lateral pull-down machines, pulleys or cables out in the open, where training happens. Where it could be sunny one moment and overcast the next. Working out here for the sake of looking a particular was is frowned upon. Instead, pure ecstasy is to be had while doing a five compound exercise circuit that will push anyone to their aerobic limit, and have them flat on their back in the end, almost retching out a protein shake while they make up oxygen deficit. The conscious acceptance of a little discomfort knowing that the gains are worth the effort. Training through cross discipline practice, evidence, performance and creativity while shunning specialisation. May the physical generalist in all of us rejoice.

In early 2007, he was sick and bedridden for several months. When he got better, he decided to change his lifestyle entirely.
“I worked on myself from the inside out, testing things on myself - sometimes they worked, and other times they didn't. I'd go biking for eight hours and see if I fell sick, or go to gyms and run a mile, and generally tried a whole lot of the city's gyms.”
